Motorola have announced their three new handsets for CES, the touchscreen MOTOSURF A3100, eco-friendly MOTO W233 Renew and rugged Tundra VA76r. The Windows Mobile 6.1 A3100 has a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 3G HSDPA and A-GPS, while the W233 and VA76r make do with Motorola’s more mundane homegrown OS. The W233’s casing is made from 100-percent recycled plastic bottles, while the VA76r packs both 3G and MIL-SPEC durability.

The MOTOSURF A3100 has a customizable “carousel” GUI with gesture control and RSS feeds delivered direct to the homescreen. As well as triband 850/1900/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA support there’s WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and a 3-megapixel auto-focus camera with video capture. The whole thing measures 110 x 59.7 x 13.7mm and weighs 119g; it’s rated for up to 6.8hrs talktime or 12.4 days standby. It will be available in Q1 2009.
The MOTO W233 Renew is an altogether simpler device, with a 100-percent recyclable casing and Motorola pledging to contribute to Carbonfund.org in order to make the W233 carbon-neutral. It has a WAP browser, SMS and MMS support, 850/1900 GSM bands and a 1.6-inch 128 x 128 65K CSTN display. Talk time is rated as up to 9 hrs (550 min) while standby is up to 18 days (450 hrs). It, too, will be available in Q1 2009.
Finally, the Tundra VA76r which meets 810F US Military Standards for drops, dust, vibration, humidity, severe temperatures and rain. It also supports 3G HSDPA, Push To Talk (PTT), has Motorola’s CrystalTalk Plus noise-reduction system and a 2-megapixel camera. The VA76r also has A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 and 100mb of internal memory, expandable with a 4GB microSD card. It will go on sale with AT&T on January 13th.

Well, Sling has gone and done it again. This time they’ve got some iPhone app nonsense for your TiVo-addicted souls. You might remember the initial “concept” version, but the new actual application was created within Apple’s SDK guidelines, thus making it App Store friendly. Sling is aiming to get this out in Q1, so let’s hope they make it this time. Pricing will most likely be the same as their other SlingPlayer Mobile applications — .99 — though they haven’t announced that yet.
If you’re a Mac user, they have also got somethin’ cooking for as well. Look forward to HD streaming through Sling.com. It’s essentially a web-based Mac SlingPlayer that links up just perfectly with your brand new PRO-HD box. Good stuff all around, guys.

According to Darren Murph, there’s “no way anyone in their right mind should get this excited about receiving a 9 game console.” Continue reading to see for yourself.
Given the completely ridiculous Wii shortage that’s still ongoing, there’s obviously no shame in being somewhat off your rocker if one shows up in a nicely wrapped box.

A recent tip from a trusted source over at CrunchGear has just given some information on the newest Palm smartphone to be running the new Nova operating system. This new phone set to launch on Thursday is said to have a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard.

This keyboard will slide out from under a portrait-oriented touchscreen. The new operating system Nova is being described as “amazing” and Palm is going to need a big boost to pick up the pace. In order to compete with all of the applications markets including Apple’s App Store and the Android Market, Palm will be offering a full software bazaar to support the new OS.
This new handset will reportedly have multimedia playback functionality as well as the standard Palm calendar, contact and email features. This “amazing” new device is described as “iPhone-like,” but being a portrait handset with a slide-out keyboard I don’t see how that is possible. We suppose they must be talking about the touchscreen portion.

There are just a few days left until Macworld and Apple rumors are certainly not in limited stock. The latest word from the rumor mill is that Apple is going to be announcing the unibody Macbook Pro 17″ we’ve all been waiting for since the refresh of the 15″ version and the 13″ MacBook. It’s pretty obvious that that would have been the next move for Apple in its notebook line, but what’s a little shocking is that the rumor also says the battery will not be user-replaceable. Oy vey. If this is true a lot of people will definitely be upset, especially considering how abysmal the battery performace is in Apple’s latest laptops. When we buy expensive things, we always have longevity in mind - even if we’re the type that constantly buys the latest and greatest. While the rumored internal battery, like the iPod or iPhone, is said to be more powerful than previous MacBooks, there is still no excuse for it. What if there is some sort of failure? Do you have to go out of your way to have your lappy repaired at an Apple Store or go through the inconvenience of sending your computer in? Let’s hope that part of the rumor stays a rumor and that Apple doesn’t disappoint in this department.
